Confederation of African Football
(CAF) confirms the replay of Champions League final between Esperance de Tunis
and Wydad Athletic Club (WAC).
Official statement released on
Wednesday by CAF Executive Committee (Exco) says both clubs will play the second
leg of the final again but it will be staged outside Tunisia.
According to CAF Exco, Esperance as
a result of the announcement are to hand the trophy and medals to the CAF Secretariat while they decide on date and venue for the fixture.
After a one all draw result in the first
leg in Morocco, the second leg in Tunisia ended abruptly after away side WAC equalized
Esperance lead to level it on aggregate (2-2), only to see the goal disallowed
by referee Bakary Gassama for offside.
The Moroccan side protest for the
referee to use VAR but he refused because the machine was not working.
Consequently, WAC decided not to continue the game with 62 minutes played.
However, Esperance were crowned champions
after the away side decided not to continue.
The first leg result has not been
canceled despite the second leg announced to be replayed.
